A new sports tradition

The history of high school lacrosse in Minnesota is not very long. Its history in Owatonna is even shorter. 
Yet, what ten years ago was largely an unknown sport has turned into one of the fastest growing sports in Minnesota. In 2004, there were only about 500 high school lacrosse players in the state. Today, there are over 5000.

Beth Dohrmann, 89, Claremont

Beth E.  Dohrmann, 89, of Claremont, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at her home.
She was born July 30, 1925 in, Dodge County the daughter of Lloyd and Marjorie (Sackett) Pierce. Beth graduated from West Concord High School with the class of 1943 and married Edward Dohrmann on Feb. 21, 1945. 

Marieta F. Frederick, 88, Zumbrota

Marieta F. Frederick, 88 of Zumbrota, formerly of Pine Island, died on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Zumbrota Health Services. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Berne with the Rev. Victor Jortack officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Anna Nelson, 89, Blooming Prairie

Anna L. Nelson, 89 of Blooming Prairie died Monday afternoon, Jan. 19, 2015, at the Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie. 
Anna Lucille Heatherton was born Nov. 22, 1925, in West Des Moines, Iowa, to William R. and Margaret (Daniels) Heatherton. Anna’s mother died when Anna was very young, so Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly, Sr raised her. 

David Ferguson, 80, Austin

David Eugene Ferguson, 80, of Austin died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center, Austin. 

A SCORE FOR STEELE COUNTY

A giant glass castle is taking shape as the new home of the Minnesota Vikings. Featured prominently throughout the $1 billion stadium will be glass manufactured in Steele County. 
Within the past few months, glass panels for the stadium began rolling off the production lines at Viracon’s sprawling factory in Owatonna. Glass will continue to be made, off and on, until October or November. 

Owatonna’s airport set to unveil master plan soon

Owatonna’s Degner Regional Airport is flying at great heights to plan for its future. 
Information and display boards will be set up for residents to review. Officials will address topics such as airport inventory, airport forecasts, facility recommendations and alternatives analyzed. The airport’s consultant and staffers will be available to answer questions.
