David Spinler, 81, rural Austin

David Albert Spinler, age 81 of rural Austin, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018. 
He was born Jan. 18, 1937 in Owatonna to Albert and Leone Dorothy (Fiebiger) Spinler. Dave graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1954. Following graduation, he served his country in the National Guard. 

Jose C. Olivo, 61, Blooming Prairie

Jose “Joseph” C. Olivo, 61, died Saturday morning, Aug., 11, 2018, in Blooming Prairie.    
Joe Olivo was born March 10, 1957 in San Marcos, Texas, the son of Willie and Ysabel (Cervantes) Olivo. In 1975, Joe graduated from Blue Earth High School. On Aug. 25, 1978, he was united in marriage to Carrie Jean Ogilvie at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. The couple moved to Blooming Prairie in 1986.

Getting back to school is extra special for my 11-year-old daughter this year as she heads into middle school. It’s scary for me to think the elementary days are now in the rearview mirror for all my kids. 

Donald Zeller, 88, Kasson

Donald Zeller, 88, died on Aug. 1, 2018 at Prairie Meadows Senior Living Facility in Kasson. It was coincidental that his death was on this date, the Swiss National Day, as all his ancestors came from Switzerland and settled in Berne.

Legion sells wreaths for veterans

It may be hard to think about the holidays in the middle of the warm August days of summer, but a local veterans group is getting into the holiday mode already.
At its booth during the Festival in the Park last weekend, the Kasson American Legion began taking orders for Christmas wreaths. It is one of the major fundraisers during the year for the Legion.  

Boyhood fascination leads to resurrecting car show

As a youngster growing up in Kasson, Ryan Jech vividly recalls the Festival in the Park celebration when it featured a car show.
“I just remember coming here as a kid checking out the cars,” Jech said. “I really enjoyed it.”
Jech was disappointed to see a few years ago when the festival stopped the car show. There hasn’t been a car show for about six years. 

Patricia Rohne, 79, Waseca

Patricia I. ‘Patti’ Rohne, age 79 of Waseca, died Saturday morning Aug. 4, 2018 at the New Richland Care Center in New Richland.  
Patricia Irene Crandell was born Nov. 15, 1938 in Hayfield, to John and Irene (Freiert) Crandell. She attended school in Hayfield, graduating from Hayfield High School in 1957.  She contracted polio at a young age and was left with foot and leg problems. 

Jimmie Ahles, 78, Austin

Jimmie A. Ahles, age 78 of Austin, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018 at his home in Austin.  
Jimmie Allen was born Feb. 17, 1940 in Stearns County to Cornelius and Voila Marie (Laws) Ahles. As a child Jimmie’s family moved to Blooming Prairie, where he attended school.
