Stephanie French says she “never planned on being a cop.” She may never have planned it but earlier this month she became the first female sergeant for the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
French has actually been part of the department since March of 2008 when she began working as a part-time transit officer. She became a part-time deputy in 2013 and later was promoted to a full-time position.

The year had started out as a somewhat normal new year, but by late February the wheels fell off!
Officials in Washington, heads of the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, Dr. Anthony Fauci and a host of Chinese Communist Party leaders were telling of the coronavirus that was first identified as a result of a “wet market” in a town we in America had never heard of…Wuhan.

Mavis Harriet Olsen, 98, of Hayfield, passed away on Monday, Dec. 21, 2020 at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield. Mavis was born on Dec.

Anders “Andy” Bartel Ness, 92, of Kasson,died on Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.  
Andy was born on Oct. 14, 1928 in rural Olmsted County to Norman and Alice (Osmundsen) Ness. He was baptized and confirmed at South Zumbro Lutheran Church. He graduated from Kasson High School in 1946. 

A hundred Dodge Center children were able to receive Christmas presents this year due to the efforts of the Dodge Center Lions and community residents.
“It was quite a year with the pandemic,” said Lion Carol Johnson. Despite the pandemic and Semcac being unable to help this year, the Lions’ Santa Anonymous program helped 39 or 40 families and 100 kids have a brighter Christmas, she said.

Making schoolwork applicable to the real world is what Kasson-Mantorville High School business teacher Chris Fernholz is known for.
It’s one of many reasons why Fernholz was named KM Teacher of the Year last fall.

Rev. Clint Patterson grew up on a farm near Burt, Iowa, 130 miles southwest of Kasson, in the 1950’s and 60’s with three sisters. His farm work included herding sheep, feeding cattle, walking beans, baling hay, grinding corn for cattle feed and driving farm machinery. 
He was in 4-H for seven years showing Hereford cattle at the county fair. 

Traffic is steady at area hair salons, report salon owners, with clients begging for appointments around the holidays just like in previous years.
“We’re always crazy busy,” said Kitsie Robinson, owner at Hair Games in Byron. Salon traffic has been steady since the salon reopened June 1 after the statewide salon shut down in the spring ordered by Gov. Tim Walz.
