What you need to know about upcoming elections
This year, voters will not be heading to the polls and voting on who should be the next President of the United States.
But voters in local communities, aside from Hayfield, will all have the chance to express their opinions when they go to the polls on or before Nov. 2.
In Byron, voters will have the chance to vote on two different school levies; Triton voters will decide on one levy; and voters in the Kasson-Mantorville school district will decide who becomes the seventh member of the school board.
As we have in past years, the Dodge County Independent will be dedicating a special section to providing important information ahead of the election.
This will be published in our
Oct. 23 paper.
The reason for this is to make sure everyone receives the paper well before Election Day. Sending the paper out with this voter information a little early gives the USPS time to deliver it, while also allowing people the chance to read and digest the information.
Also, in the event of an error, we’ll have the next issue to ensure a correction is made before the election.
Some of the features we plan to include are stories about the levy referendum in Byron, information on the levy question in Triton, features on the four candidates for Kasson-Mantorville School Board, in addition to another installment in the weekly Q&A series we have been running with candidates since the summer.
We will also have plenty of information on when and where people can vote.
Advancing public discourse and informing the public are two critical parts of a newspaper’s role in the community, and we hope this voter section will do just that.
