West Concord issues water boil advisory following pressure drop

West Concord issued a water boil advisory Friday, Jan. 20, after a well pump malfunction resulted in a water pressure drop, necessitating a switch to another well to maintain pressurization.
“Because we lost pressure, its standard procedure to issue a water boil notice,” said city administrator, Theresa Booms.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), Environmental Health Division, “community public water supplies (CPWSs) will issue a drinking water advisory when evidence indicates the sanitary integrity of the CPWS was compromised.”
Such sanitary integrity advisories can be triggered by, among other events, sanitary defects, security breaches, water main breaks, water treatment process failure, low or negative distribution system pressure, flooding, and cross-connection and backflow from a non-potable water source to the distribution system.
According to Booms, the city followed the MDH recommendations regarding notifying the public, including phone calls and social media notices.
