Warm up at Becky’s Closet

When Becky Schultz, opened Becky’s Community Closet in Kasson, in June she did so because she saw a need for affordable clothing and housewares in the local community.
Now, the store will provide more than just a place for people in the community to get clothes and housewares.
It will provide a place for people struggling in the community to get warmth.
After hearing through different forms of media that Rochester offers warming stations, she did some asking around and realized that there isn’t any warming stations offered in Kasson or in Dodge County.
So she decided to do something about it and announced on Facebook that she would be opening her store to people who are in need of a warm place to go.
“We are trying something new. As of today I decided to open my store as a warming center,” the Facebook post said.
The concept that Schultz is going with is that if someone finds themselves without heat or a warm place to go, then she will open the store to them at any time, without any judgement.
While this will be a safe and warm space for people to go to, Schultz explained that it’s not meant to be a permanent solution.
“This is not meant to be anything more than a few hours to a day or two until they can get their situation fixed,” the Facebook post stated.
Aside from providing temporarily, safe and heated shelter, Schultz is also looking to collect some basic necessities like air mattresses, microwave meals, formula , coffee, disposable plates and other things.
