Volleyball produces thrillers in second week

There’s nothing better in sports than a compelling game, and the Kasson-Mantorville volleyball team was doing their best to give fans their money’s worth this past week. The KoMets won  four and five-set thrillers to open the week and followed it up by placing eighth at the Southwest Minnesota Challenge in Marshall.
The week started with their home opener as they hosted the Hayfield Vikings. This four-set match had plenty of ups and downs as the Vikings dug their way out of a 20-15 deficit before finally fighting them off 26-24. After a 25-18 set that was more decisive, the KoMets let one get away as Hayfield again fought back from an early hole to win the third set 28-26.
“Hayfield is a very dangerous team,” K-M head coach Adam Van Oort said of the Vikings. “They were able to take advantage of some mistakes by us, but we cleaned it up in the second game. They’re improving every year and I would expect them to be a force in the HVL the next couple years.”
