TRITON ISD NO. 2125 school board minutes

1. Call to Order
Chair Henslin called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.  Those members present: Lloyd Henslin, Jr., Dale Jensen, Bryce Kleinwort, Melissa Kubat and Tracy Petersohn; absent: Jon Streiff and Chad Johnson.  Also present: Superintendent Brett Joyce, Principal Craig Schlichting, Principal Mark Raymond, Student Council Representative Isaak Nicklay, Deb Meeker, Patty Braeger and 8 visitors.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Kubat/Jensen motioned to approve the agenda as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.
Jensen/Kleinwort to approve the consent agenda as presented including the January 11, 2016 regular meeting minutes and January 27, 2016 study session minutes; claims and bills; financial report; nonresident/open enrollment agreements #020816A, #020816B, #020816C, #020816D, #020816E, #020816F, #020816G, #020816H, #020816I, #020816J, #020816K, #020816L, #020816M and #020816N;  2015-2017 Building Administrators’ Agreement, maternity leave for Laura Rud effective May 2, 2016 through June 10, 2016, contract for Kim Jensch as Elementary Teacher for 2015-2016, request to decrease hours for Wendy Kenworthy as Duplication Specialist, part-time contract for Wendy Kenworthy as AD Administrative Assistant/AESOP and extra-curricular contract for Karen Kleinwort as .5 Musical Asst. Director.  Motion carried unanimously.
AD Director Don Henderson discussed a possible soccer cooperative.
Kubat/Petersohn motioned to establish a soccer cooperative with Hayfield and Kenyon-Wanamingo.  Motion carried unanimously.
Kleinwort/Jensen motioned to approve the 2015-16 revised budget.  Motion carried unanimously.
Member Jensen introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION DIRECTING 
THE ADMINISTRATION TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR REDUCTIONS IN 
PROGRAMS AND POSITIONS AND REASONS THEREFOR.
WHEREAS, the financial condition of the school district dictates that the school board must reduce expenditures immediately, and
WHEREAS, this reduction in expenditure must include discontinuance of positions and discontinuance or curtailment of programs, and
WHEREAS, a determination must be made as to which teachers' contracts must be terminated and not renewed and which teachers may be placed on unrequested leave of absence without pay or fringe benefits in effecting discontinuance of positions,
BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 2125, as follows:
That the School Board hereby directs the Superintendent of Schools and administration to consider the discontinuance of programs or positions to effectuate economies in the school district and reduce expenditures and make recommendations to the school board for the discontinuance of programs, curtailment of programs, discontinuance of positions or curtailment of positions.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Petersohn and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Petersohn, Kubat, Kleinwort, Jensen and Henslin and the following voted against the same: none 
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
Jensen/Kubat motioned to authorize students to attend Whitewater for the 2016-2017 school year.  Motion carried unanimously.
BPA Director Rebecca Goossens informed the Board of the students advancing to state and requested an overnight stay for the Business Professionals of America.
Kleinwort/Jensen motioned to authorize students to attend an overnight trip for Business Professionals of America State Conference in Minneapolis March 10-12, 2016.  Motion carried unanimously.
Music Teacher Craig Anderson explained the proposed itinerary for the 2016 Triton High School Biennial Music Trip to Chicago and requested an overnight stay for students.
Petersohn/Kubat motioned to approve students to attend an overnight trip for Band and Choir to Chicago April 29-May 1.  Motion carried unanimously.
Jensen/Kleinwort motioned to designate Don Henderson as MSHSL School Representative and Tracy Petersohn as MSHSL School Board Representative.  Motion carried unanimously.
Enrollment figures were discussed for first semester.
Principal Schlichting reported on the awesome accomplishments of the One Act, BPA and FFA.
Principal Raymond discussed the middle school student trips with the 6th grade skiing trip to Welch Village, 7th grade Winona State University college visit and 8th grade will have the option to vote on their field trip location.
Superintendent Brett Joyce announced School Board recognition week is February 15-19 and stated
