Townships need to utilize new technologies to keep constituents informed

There are 12 townships in Dodge County (Ashland, Canisteo, Claremont, Concord, Ellington, Hayfield, Mantorville, Milton, Ripley, Vernon, Wasioja, and Westfield). As of writing this Letter to the Editor, ONE township as a website: Milton Township (milton-township.com), Ripley Township has a Facebook page.
The perfect platform for communication is a website. Easy and cost effective to set up and maintain, a website is available 24/7/365 to constituents.
Posting notices in the local paper, writing/posting items on a dry-erase board at the township hall, or stating “call the township clerk for information” are fine (but antiquated). Performing the minimum notification requirement by state statutes is unacceptable. Stop placing the burden on township constituents to find information regarding their township.
Part of an elected officials responsibility is to inform, listen to, and learn from their constituents at townhall meetings. How can this happen if constituents aren’t aware of upcoming meeting topics in the township? Post upcoming agendas, previous meeting minutes, important dates, public hearings, special meetings, election results, and bios of the township supervisors.
Attending meetings is a vital part of the governing process. An informed populace is an involved populace. We want an informed populace in Dodge County, correct?
Local website developers can assist in creating a website.
