BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Sheriff identifies grain bin survivor
 
Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag has identified the survivor of the grain bin rescue as Christopher Johnson, 65, of Owatonna. Mayo One flew him to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester around noon Wednesday. His condition is unknown, but the sheriff said Johnson was conscious and alert at the scene. He is expected to make a full recovery. 
Johnson survived a harrowing rescue that took emergency responders nearly two hours to free him. Johnson became stuck in a grain bin when he went in to move a crust of layered corn that plugged the bin, according to Freitag. 
Rescuers from several neighboring communities helped save Johnson. They included the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Ellendale Ambulance and fire departments from Blooming Prairie, Geneva, Ellendale, Manchester, Clarks Grove, New Richland and Albert Lea.
“It was a happy ending,” the sheriff said. He added that most people who become entangled in grain bins don’t survive and that Johnson is “one lucky guy.”

An unidentified man has reportedly been rescued Wednesday morning from a grain bin on a farm in Freeborn County and flown by Mayo One to a Rochester hospital.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and fire departments from Ellendale and Geneva responded around 10 a.m. to a man trapped in a grain bin at 33519 815th Ave., which is located northeast of Geneva.
Rescuers eventually freed the man and transported him to the hospital. His condition is unknown.
