Thomas Paul Heymann , 67, Kasson

Tom Heymann, 67, of Kasson, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on July 4, 2016, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease with Lewy Body dementia. He was diagnosed in 2003.
Tom was born to Carl and Pearl (Penkert) Heymann on July 4, 1949, in New Ulm, Minnesota He moved to Rochester, where he attended Hawthorne Elementary, Central Junior High, John Marshall High School and was a member of the first graduating class of Mayo High School in 1967.  He attended RCC and was drafted in 1969 to the Army where he served as a Military Policeman in Korea.  He was honorably discharged in 1971.  He worked at Stauffer Chemical, later named Kerry, Inc., in Rochester for 35 years until his retirement in 2006 due to illness.
In 1974, Tom married Gwen Holmberg.  They moved to Kasson in 1976 and raised their family there. Tom loved hunting with his Labrador dogs, fishing, nature, his American Flyer trains, going to the casino and playing pull tabs.  Tom was a member of the American Legion Post 333.  He loved to spend time with his grandkids and had many friends.
Tom is survived by his wife, Gwen (Holmberg) Heymann; one son Adam (Sarah Truax) and grandkids Abbigail and Aubrey of Rochester; two daughters, Melissa Holmberg (Gary Wenzel) and grandkids Devon of Faribault and Destiny of Hayfield, and Emily Heymann (Nick Rietheimer) and grandkids Kaelyn, Paisley and Axel of Waltham; and one sister, Carla Thompson of Stewartville.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Pearl Heymann; brother-in-law Ray Thompson; sister-in-law Judy Lee; father-in-law Earl Holmberg; mother-in-law June Holmberg and nephew Kasey Stafford.
A celebration of life gathering was held on July 9 at the American Legion Post 333 in Kasson. 
Tom chose to donate his body for medical research. There will be a private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials for them to distribute later according to their wishes.
