Stock Car Shoot Out wraps up season at Chateau Speedway

The abbreviated 2023 Chateau Speedway racing season came to a conclusion Sunday afternoon with the running of the $1,000 to win Stock Car Shootout. The show was originally scheduled for Friday night but Mother Nature decided to catch up on some much-needed rainfall for the area starting on Friday and continuing into early Sunday morning. Just over three inches of rain made it a busy Sunday morning for track officials as they worked to get the moisture worked into the track for the big race.
The Title Class for the event, the Skjeveland Enterprises USRA Stock Cars were led by Blake Adams of Stacyville, Iowa, who led flag to flag to take the big check in the $1,000 to win Feature. Curt Lund of Redwood Falls kept the pressure on right up to the end looking inside, then outside but could not find the move that would put him to the point. Phil Wehnert of Galesville, Wis., came home third as he worked his way from outside of row four to the top three. Lund and David Gustafson of Pine Island took the classes heat wins.
Hanson Tire WISSOTA Midwest Mods were dominated by Josh Mattick of Rose Creek who swept the lone heat as well as the feature. Tommy Myer of Blooming Prairie who led early came home in second.
Power 96 USRA Hobby Stocks saw Corey Black of Mankato claim his first Chateau Speedway Feature Win as he led flag to flag for the win, holding off Andy Krohnberg of Walters for the win. Brady Krohnberg of Walters and Matthew Brooks of Austin grabbed the heat wins.
A solid field of 19 cars took to the track for the Manke’s Outdoor Equipment Hornet Feature. Jerry Coopman of Mankato put on a show as he charged from row nine to take the lead on lap 18 to capture his first win of the year. Bryce Lisowski of Medford came home second ahead of Daniel Kinish of Kilkenny.
Heat wins went to Maison Poston of Red Wing, Neil Forsberg of Slayton, and Troy Tuma of Owatonna.
The track will be used for one more event this fall with SMP Promotions holding their Season Championship Enduro on Saturday afternoon October 7. Full size and compact cars will compete in the afternoon show. After that the off-season prep work begins as the track looks forward to the start of the 2024 Season in May.
