Sterling “Lars” Larson, 89, of Kasson,

Sterling “Lars” Larson, 89, of Kasson, MN passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his home.

Sterling was born on December 9, 1936, in Canisteo Township, MN to Edward and Caroline (Severson) Larson.  Sterling was a lifelong resident of Kasson, MN, graduating from Kasson-Mantorville high school.  Following his graduation, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard, for which he was very proud of his time in the service.  He married Phyllis Papenheim on August 19, 1961, and together they had three children.  

Sterling was a lifelong farmer and worked as a mechanic for Massy Ferguson in Kasson, MN. He also taught mechanics at Riverland Community College for a short time.  He loved watching cartoons, eating pizza and ice cream, visiting the State Fair, and fishing up in northern Minnesota.  He loved his wife’s cooking and tending to his garden. He had a passion for Polka music and being a member in his band “Lars and Sven” where he played the accordion.  

Sterling was very strong in his faith.  He was a stubborn Norwegian and always took care of his family first.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.  

Sterling is survived by his daughters, Sheila Andersen and Sandy Rooney; grandchildren, Christine, Nichole, and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Paige, Brayden, Brady, Alexis, Walker, and Kayla.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Larson; his son, Steven Larson; one sister and five brothers.  

A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, 801 7th St SE in Kasson, MN.  A private family graveside service will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson, MN with Pastor Pete Wyttenbach officiating and military honors provided by the Kasson American Legion Post 333.
