Stabbing victim’s condition improves

The condition of a 41-year-old stabbing victim in West Concord has improved, the West Concord Police Chief reports.
Chief Shannon Boerner said that the unidentified victim is in stable condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Boerner said investigators met with the victim Friday to get his side of what happened during the violent attack in West Concord Thursday afternoon.
A 24-year-old man is in custody at the Steele County Jail in Owatonna in connection with the incident.
Police responded to the area surrounding the West Concord Pool around 6:30 p.m. on a report of a man who had been stabbed. Boerner said the stabbing did not take place at the pool area as the victim had wandered there from another undisclosed location. The chief added the primary crime scene was at a near-by residence.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension assisted at the scene to piece together what happened.
“We don’t know what led to the altercation,” Boerner told the DCI. “No motive has been determined,” he said.
Boerner declined to disclose the relationship between the suspect and victim other than to say “they did not live together.”
The chief expects the suspect to be formally charged by the county attorney on Monday. He added no additional details of the attack will be released until that time.
