Something to cheer about

With a home win against Rochester John Marshall under their belts, an Owatonna 3-2 win at Farmington propelled the Owatonna volleyball team to a section semifinal bout against Rochester Mayo.
The week began with a home match against Rochester John Marshall, where the Rockets gave Owatonna a run for its money in the opening round of sections. Game one went to the Huskies with a 25-22 win. Game two came even closer, but the Huskies held on again for the 27-25 win. In game three, the Rockets finally bested the Huskies, edging them 26-24. The Huskies, however, put all thoughts of a comeback quickly behind their guests with a 25-16 win to defeat Rochester John Marshall.
The win propelled the Huskies to the second round of sections where they travelled to Farmington to take on the Tigers. Having met earlier this season, the Tigers defeated the Huskies 2-1. With a 25-7 loss in the first game of the section match, it looked as though Owatonna might not have what it took Saturday night. The Huskies were able to respond, however, defeating the Tigers 25-16. Immediately after, Owatonna suffered a 29-27 heartbreaker to Farmington. Down 2-1 and a loss away from the season ending, the Huskies banded together and won the next two games 25-17 and 15-12, respectively.
The comeback win resulted in a 3-2 victory, propelling the Huskies to the semifinals against Rochester Mayo. Mayo received a first-round bye in the tournament and easily took care of Rochester Century in three games at home. The Huskies won their first game against Mayo this season but lost the next three to lose 3-1 having been outscored 94-71.
The semifinals game will take place on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Rochester Mayo High School.
