Sheriff reports fatality from Mantorville fire

An early morning fire at an apartment building in Mantorville has resulted in one known fatality and at least 5 people transported to Saint Marys in Rochester, according to Sheriff Scott Rose.
According to a release from Rose, county dispatch began receiving calls at 6:37 a.m. from the 12-unit Chestnut apartment building at 507 Chestnut St. in Mantorville reporting an active fire. Callers from the apartment reported they were trying to get others out.
When law enforcement arrived they reported heavy smoke coming from the building.
Among those taken to Saint Marys, Rose said, at least one was in critical condition.
Sheriff's deputies and Kasson police were first on the scene. Mantorville Fire Department responded and was assisted by the Kasson Fire Department, Dodge Center Fire Department and Byron Fire Department. Dodge Center Ambulance, Hayfield Ambulance and Mayo Ambulance were also at the scene as was the Minnesota State Patrol.
