Seven vie for title of Miss West Concord

All the bituminous has been removed on the Blooming Prairie Main Street reconstruction, a joint project between the City of Blooming Prairie and Steele County. Concrete removal was planned to begin this week.
Recent work has involved connecting the water main and sanitary sewer in the center of Highway 218.  
“Once we get the utilities stubbed in on 218, we will go east to 5th Avenue and get ready for concrete pavement,” said Matt Smith, vice president of Elcor Construction, Rochester. Elcor holds the general contract on the $2.7 million project.
“We are very pleased with the progress on the joint project, even though the rains delayed us a bit,” Smith said. “We are about two days behind because of the rain, but we can make that up in a hurry,” added Forrest Hasty, project inspector for Steele County.
Hasty said two work crews were on site at times to increase production.
The water and sewer project will be attacked a block or two at a time and will involve the installation of new catch basins.
The project sequence has looked like this: removals; sanitary sewer and water main; sewer and water services; storm sewer; roadway grading; roadway paving; electrical; sidewalk and signage and striping.
