Saying ‘Thanks’

Zac Plein was a member of Kasson-Mantorville High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions group, not so long ago.
He was on the other side Dec. 19 at his place of employment, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office in Mantorville.
Plein, a Sheriff’s deputy, was among several area law enforcement officers treated to a home-cooked pulled pork dinner by current SADD members, for their help in communities and with SADD activities over the past year.
“I think it’s great,” the 2012 K-M graduate said. “I don’t believe we ever did anything to this extent when I was in. We’ve always been supportive of law enforcement when I was in. We did compliance checks and things like that. But not a feed like this. This is cool, to have some students support the community and come out here and do this for us. It’s nice to see that there are still youths committed to being a positive influence in the community.”
SADD president Amy Buehler, a K-M senior, said she and her crew were out to brighten the officers’ day and say thanks. They also served chips, dessert bars, cookies and beverages as part of the holiday community service activity.
“I love doing this,” she said. “It just makes me happy to see them happy and getting a warm meal, either before they go out or when they’re coming in. It’s just nice.”
“I think it really shows that our community is supportive,” junior Dylan Yanke said. “It means a lot, knowing that people from our community can always back you up.”
