Roger Steele Erickson, 90, Pensacola, FL

Roger S. Erickson of Pensacola FL, formerly of Kasson, passed away Aug.1 2020.
Roger was born Dec. 31, 1929 to Chester and Dorothy Erickson of Kasson. He grew up in Kasson and graduated from Kasson High School in 1947. He then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1951.
After graduating from college he joined the United States Air Force. While serving as an enlisted man, he had the opportunity to attend Officer Candidate School. He graduated from OCS and received his commission. He was discharged at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
Upon his discharge Roger returned to Kasson and entered the family business, Erickson Hardware. He represented the third generation of Ericksons in the business.
On Feb. 14, 1956 he married Lavonne Arlene Stafford. They made their home in Kasson, operating the hardware store until selling it in 1990. They then moved to Minneapolis and stayed there until 1996. Although technically retired, Roger felt the need to return to work part time- in a hardware store.
In 1996 they returned to Kasson and enjoyed their retirement until Arlene passed in 2012. Roger stayed in Kasson until 2014 at which time he moved to Pensacola. He stayed there until his passing.
Roger very much enjoyed the outdoors, specifically hunting and fishing. In his later years he rediscovered pheasant hunting and had many memorable days afield with his dog, Brandy. He and Arlene also spent a lot of time with their grandchildren and attended countless sporting events as the grandchildren grew.
Roger is survived by son Jay (Ann) of Pensacola, son Jim (Deb) of Eyota, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Arlene.
