Quadricentennial Dairy Show Thursday, Friday

Area residents are invited to get June Dairy Month off to a rousing start Thursday and Friday with a “Party Until the Cows Come Home” courtesy of the Triton FFA Chapter.
Dodge County’s fairgrounds is the place to be this Thursday and Friday, June 6 and 7, as theChapter hosts a Quadricentennial Dairy Show. In case you have never heard the term quadricentennial, it means 400th anniversary, in this case, 400 years since the dairy cow first arrived at Plymouth Colony in 1624 in what was to become the United States.
The dairy industry has played an important role in American agriculture in the centuries since then and also an important role in Minnesota’s agriculture. June, of course, is Dairy Month to recognize those achievements.
To celebrate the arrival of dairy cows, the Triton FFA is sponsoring a show which is open to all Minnesota FFA members in grades seven through graduate.
On Saturday there were 30 registrations with 86 head of cattle signed up, said Cadence Spearman, the Triton FFA member who head up the project. The show was also Spearman’s Senior Project.
At the event itself, she said, Triton will be assisted by FFA members from neighboring Chapters.The Triton FFA Alumni are also involved in the show.
On Thursday the show includesa showmanship contest and a fitting contest. There will be two age divisions for the contests.Friday will see the colored breed classes in the morning and the Holsteins at noon.
In addition to the show events, the public is also invited to the Burger Bash, scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 6.
Menu for the Burger Bar will be a hamburger bar with potato chips, cowboy beans, cheese and crackers and milk or water. The Burger Bar is open to the public, on the fairgrounds, and costs $10.
