P&P Appliances still strong 40 years later

In 1978, Joe Pearson was asked by a friend if he wanted to start and own an appliance shop with him.
Pearson said yes and 41 years later he is continuing to help the Kasson community with its appliance needs through his business P&P Appliances.
After a few years of learning about the business and how to repair a number of different appliances, Pearson found a real passion for helping people with repairs and helping to match community members with the right appliances, sometimes selling people multiple appliances over the years.
“I like fixing stuff and being able to meet and help people,” Pearson said.
The road for Pearson wasn’t always an easy one though.
In 1990, their original Main Street building next to the current DCI Office burned down, causing the business to be ran out of Pearson’s home for 12 years.
In 2002, Pearson had an opportunity to buy a Main Street building, and he did just that and his business has been there ever since.
“It was the best thing we ever did,” Pearson said.
On June 1, the appliance business will no longer have a storefront as it will become the new home of Becky’s Closet, a thrift store currently located next door on Main Street in Kasson.
Although there soon won’t be a storefront, Pearson explained that he isn’t going out of business and will still be continuing to help those in the community with appliance repairs.
Pearson explained that he will also be keeping the back half of the building to do repairs and to sell some used appliances.
Over the years, Pearson said it has been a team effort with his wife and him, who helped out over the years on days when she wasn’t working as a nurse.
“We always did it together,” Pearson said.
