Pocius responds to superintendent comments

Recently, a public statement regarding my departure as Boys Basketball Head Coach referenced “performance over the past eight years” as the rationale for recommended non-renewal. It’s important to provide additional context.
The current superintendent has not been in the district for that duration, and throughout my tenure, I did not receive longitudinal evaluation feedback indicating concerns of that nature. I understand that decisions in education and athletics can be influenced by a variety of factors, and I am aware that communication to families referenced parent concerns as part of that process. These factors reflect a broader context that is important to accurately understand.
During my time leading the program, I am proud of the growth we achieved. This past season, we set a school record for scoring and consistently developed all-conference players within the HVL over the past eight years. More importantly, we worked to build a program rooted in accountability, connection and long-term development for our student-athletes.
I will be stepping away and moving forward, but I believe context matters. Coaches and educators invest deeply in their work, and it is important that their contributions are represented accurately.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with our players, families and community, and I will continue to support the game and the development of young people.
