Playground project begins at West Park
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new merry-go-round at Kasson’s West Park took place on Aug. 14.
This city-owned park is located in front of Kasson Public Library. The effort to add a new merry-go-round was spearheaded by 11-year-old Grace Reed of Kasson who raised the entire amount of $7,500 necessary to purchase and install it.
Reed worked closely with Ron Unger, supervisor of Kasson’s Parks & Recreation Department and Theresa Coleman, Kasson city administrator. She received great support from the Park Board and community, from private donors and also from the NextEra Energy Resources organization.
Work will begin soon and the installation should be completed by the end of August, according to Unger.
Attending the groundbreaking were Park Board members Chuck Coleman, Liza Larsen and Janet Sinning, employees of NextEra Energy Resources, library staff, Reed’s family and community members.
Reed should be congratulated for her hard work in undertaking this project, and thanked by all Kasson citizens who will enjoy this playground addition.
