An open letter to the Class of 2026
Dear Seniors,
As we come to the end of another school year, I find myself especially proud of all of you. You’ve had success in the classroom, through your activities, and most importantly, you’ve grown into great human beings. That matters more than anything.
Your future is bright.Even if it doesn’t feel perfectly clear right now, that’s OK. Truthfully, when I graduated high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do either. There’s a lot of pressure to have a plan all figured out, but life doesn’t always work that way and it doesn’t need to.
For me, the military helped me find my direction. It gave me purpose, structure and a path I hadn’t seen before. Your path may look completely different — and that’s exactly how it should be. Each of you will find your own way in your own time.
As a school, we’ve worked hard to help prepare you for whatever comes next. You’ve been challenged in the classroom to think critically, solve problems and push through when things weren’t easy. Through activities, athletics, music and clubs, you’ve learned teamwork, leadership and how to commit to something bigger than yourself. Many of you have taken part in hands-on learning, career exploration, internships, or real-world experiences that have helped you see what’s possible beyond high school. You’ve learned how to communicate, how to show up and how to be accountable! These skills will matter no matter what path you choose.
Some of you will head to college. Some will enter the workforce. Some may take on apprenticeships or learn a trade. Others may stay close to home, helping run a family farm or business. Every one of those paths is valuable. Every one of them matters.
The most important thing is that you do something that means something to you. Do what you love. Do what challenges you. Do what helps you grow into the person you want to become. And understand that it’s OK if your plans change along the way: most do.
There is no single definition of success. Your future belongs to you and no one else. You get to shape it, build it and define it.
What I do know is this: you are ready. You are capable. And you have already made your school and community proud. Congratulations, seniors. We can’t wait to see where your journey takes you.
