Fire committee disbanded, city looks to amend ordinance

The fire department committee was disbanded; the open meeting law was discussed along with a potential change in the animal ordinance at last week’s Kasson City Council meeting.
Mayor Steve Johnson told the council and the audience “as of now there will be no fire committee, I will handle it.”
“I am going to disband the fire department committee. It has come to my thinking that I just want to move this forward. I am going to talk to the fire chief myself on any concerns there are and just go from there,” Johnson said.
Councilman Coy Borgstrom first suggested the committee be formed at the July 8 city council meeting after he had spoken to some firemen who felt unsafe at the fire hall. Johnson announced the committee would be headed by Borgstrom and include Troy Stafford, Billy Glawe and councilman Chuck Coleman at the Aug. 12 meeting.
