KoMets show promise in loss to Lourdes

On the scoreboard, it didn’t look like the Kasson-Mantorville football team had a lot to cheer about in a 26-7 loss to Rochester Lourdes. However, the KoMets could take pride in several things that went right on Friday in a game where they took on the top-ranked team in Class AAA.
The game got off to a decent start for the KoMets as they were able to make a couple plays, but ultimately had to give the ball to the high-powered Eagles offense. Lourdes was able to drive down the field, but it wound up being an unproductive one as the defense dug in and forced the Eagles to attempt a 30-yard field goal that went wide right.
Unfortunately, the offense could not capitalize. For most of the night, the holes just weren’t there against a stingy Lourdes defense. After a three-and-out, the KoMets gave the Eagles excellent field position as a short punt and a catch interference penalty began the next drive at the K-M 30.
Once again, the defense had to come up big as Lourdes drove down to the goal line. With a 1st and goal from the five yard line, the Eagles tried to pound it in, but the defensive line came up big and got a stop on fourth and goal to keep the game scoreless.
