Protect Minnesotans from consumer fraud

To the Editor:
There’s a higher percentage of older adults living in greater Minnesota than in the Cities. Fraudsters count on this population because of the chance that they own landlines, will answer an unexpected phone call, engage in conversation, and ultimately, fork over money. If you or a loved one has been the victim of consumer fraud, you know the toll it takes, both financially and emotionally.
Incumbent Attorney General Keith Ellison has proven that he is indeed the People’s Lawyer. In 2021 he put $7.8 million dollars back in Minnesotans’ pockets by mediating disputes between consumers and businesses. During the pandemic, Ellison’s office alerted the public to COVID-related scams and partnered with law enforcement in fighting them. Charities that broke the law were closed down, including charities that preyed on veterans.
You may not have voted for Keith Ellison in 2018. But if you or a loved one have recouped money from a scammer, you have Keith Ellison to thank. You can do so by voting for his re-election as Minnesota’s attorney general on November 8th.
