Viking golfers compete at state tournament

On June 14 and 15, five Hayfield High School golfers trekked to Becker and played at Pebble Creek Golf Club, for the Class A State Championship. Although the golf team has sent a few golfers to state before, they have never sent five individual golfers to the state tournament.
The two boys, Keegan Bronson and Sam Tucker, started off the day for the Hayfield golfers, competing with the top 86 boy golfers in Class A. Keegan Bronson ended his 4th State appearance and incredible high-school golf career with All-State honors and a 10th place finish in the tournament, carding a 79 on day 1 and a 77 on day 2, for a total score of 156.
Sam Tucker finished his junior season and 1st State Tournament in a 5-way tie for 20th place. He put up two solid scores of 79 and 85 to end the tournament with a score of 164. 
The three girls competed with the top 85 ladies in Class A. Although they didn’t have the showing they wanted to have at the State Championship, they will hopefully be back next year, this time with some experience under their belts.
Kristen Watson and Avery Towey both found themselves in a 5-way tie for 58th place to end both of their first appearances at the State Golf Tournament. Watson put up a 111 on day 1 and a 101 on day 2 for a total score of 212 in the last tournament of her sophomore year. Towey also ended with a 212 after carding a 105 on the 1st day and a 107 on the 2nd day to finish her junior season. Eighth-grader Carly Bronson took 71st place at her 2nd State appearance, with a score of 107 on day 1 and a 114 on day 2; total 221.
