It’s time for spring to really arrive

All right, who's in charge of the weather around here? A few weeks ago we have moderate, nearly spring-like weather, and now that it is spring, there’s little proof that spring has really arrived.
Last week’s rainy, gray and showers mixed with snow was the last straw in proving to anyone with half a brain that it was indeed spring. I know, complaining about the weather accomplishes nothing. Well, at least I get it off my chest and realize why so many Minnesotans head south and refuse to return until March is behind us.
Even wildlife is resisting the flight north to the breeding grounds for Mallards, Canadian Geese, cranes and other species that identify the land of 10,000 lakes as the place to nest and produce the next generation of waterfowl.
Yes, I know that there have always been the Minnesota Basketball Tournament winter blasts, but this is ridiculous! We should be looking forward to heading to Houston’s or Hardware Hank’s for our garden flowers and seeds for the vegetable gardens. One may have chosen to shop early and avoid the rush, but with this intemperate weather situation, I doubt there will be a blitz to either location.
I’m hoping that this winter-like weather pattern yields before Easter, which is in a couple of weeks. Surely April 17 will be a reprieve from winter’s iron-fisted grip on Dodge County.
After all, we have softball, baseball, track and Easter egg hunts scheduled in towns around the county and it’s imperative that we have good weather for all of those events. I can’t imagine little kids hunting for Easter eggs in snow-covered grassy areas that are still brown because old man winter refuses to give ground.
Enough complaining.
This’ll all be behind us as the Minnesota Twins and the Honkers take the field and area high school teams take a shot at winning this season.
