It was a nail biter for KOMETS game against Red Wing

It’s been a lot of years since the days of black & white photography. It’s been even longer since my first shooting of the Cloquet Lumberjacks and the Hibbing Blue Jackets. It was Cloquet’s shot to move on to the state tournament.
There was however, a huge obstacle standing in the Jacks way to state. That obstacle was Kevin McHale, a gangly 7-footer without the typical awkwardness of a big guy.He went on to play for the Gophers and eventually played as a Boston Celtic.
Last Tuesday night I got to attend the KOMETS’ Section 1AAA quarterfinal home game against the Red Wing Wingers. It was to have begun at 8:01 p.m. (due to an election) but they began early, so I got there during half time. (My bad.)
KM was leading the Wingers at the half. However, it was a nail biter in the last minutes of the game. (It always comes down to the last two minutes of the game—any game.)
In this case, the KOMETS had given the lead to the Wingers with about 4 minutes left in the game.
Why? Well, the Red Wing Wingers had a thief in its guard position. Number 11 Carson Briggs stole the ball from the backcourt multiple times when the KOMETS were passing the ball in an effort to get the ball to an open man.
I was hoping someone would call the Kasson Police Department and notify them of on-court thievery that was taking place. He was darting from player to play and would time his thefts like a cat burglar.
Fortunately, the KOMETS caught on to the cunning of the junior guard and ended up putting the game away with an Aidan Hull three pointer and shots from the penalty stripe.
When it came down to the final seconds ticking off the game clock, the boys in blue pulled out a huge win in Section 1AAA quarterfinals.
The win sent the KOMETS against Section 1AAA’s number one seed— Austin. Yep, the Packers played host to the KOMETS last Saturday in the world Spam capital.
One more thing that happened in the sports world last week was the agreement between millionaires and billionaires in the baseball world. Net result, all 162 games in Major League Baseball will be played in 2022.
America’s pass time is back and there is a collective sigh of relief for fans all over the country, whether their American League or National League fans, baseball is back!
