Memorial Day services planned in Dodge County, Byron

Area communities are preparing to observe the Memorial Day holiday with special programs and services on Monday.
Kasson-Mantorville
Kasson’s American Legion will observe Memorial Day with a program at the Kasson-Mantorville High School North Gym at 11 a.m. preceded by services at area cemeteries.
Monday’s program begins with patriotic music by the KM High School Band at 10:50 a.m.
Rose Harris will give a welcome and lead the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the opening prayer. The band will play the National Anthem.
There will be a guest speaker followed by another musical selection by the band.
The American Legion Auxiliary will place the wreath, followed by another musical selection, the closing prayer and the Firing Squad salute and Taps.
Following the program, everyone is welcome to the Kasson American Legion for a free will offering lunch upstairs.
Cemetery services will begin at 8 a.m. at Rock Dell followed by East St. Olaf at 8:15 a.m., South Zumbro at 8:30 a.m., Maple Grove at 8:55 a.m., Milton at 9:20 a.m., Berne at 9:45 a.m., the Mantorville Bridge at 10:10 a.m., St. Margaret’s at 10:25 a.m., and Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville at 10:35 a.m.
Legion members say thank you to all who support them on Memorial Day and remember veterans both past and present.
Everyone is invited to come to one of the cemeteries and help Legion members honor their fallen comrades for the services they have given.
“Remember, all gave some, but some gave all. That is why we have the right to a Memorial Day and our freedom, Thank you  and God Bless America.”
Byron
The Byron American Legion’s Memorial Day Service will start at 8 a.m. on May 31, at Othello Cemetery near Byron. There will be a short program with a poem and a prayer, and a roll call of veterans that are in the cemetery and a 21-gun salute.
From there, the group will head to Center Grove Cemetery in Douglas around 8:30 a.m. and then onto Mount Hope Cemetery at 9 a.m. Then at 10 a.m. the group will go to the Byron Cemetery.
The Byron American Legion Memorial Day Service has been happening for 20 years and typically draws 50 to 75 attendees. About 150 veterans are buried in the four cemeteries, and are veterans from the Civil War onto Dessert Storm.
Dodge Center
The events sponsored by the Dodge Center American Legion Post will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery. Guest speaker will be Todd Nelson, the Dodge County Veterans Service Office. The Triton Band will provide musical selections.

Hayfield
Hayfield Legion members will begin the day with the Colorguard at various area cemeteries.
They will start at Trinity at Waltham at 8:05 a.m., St. Michaels at Waltham at 8:25 a.m., Greenwood on Hwy 56 south of Brownsdale at 8:50, Greenwood on Hwy 56 south of Waltham at 9:15 .m., St. John’s on County Road 20 south of Sargeant at 9:35 a.m., Evanger south of Olso at 10:10 a.m., West St. Olaf east of Oslo at 10:25 a.m. and Fairview on Hwy in Hayfield at 11:10 a.m.
The Memorial Day program will be at 11:35 a.m. at Veterans Memorial park in downtown Hayfield. State Senator Gene Dornick will be the speaker.
West Concord
West Concord Memorial Day services will be held at Hegre Cemetery at 9 a.m., St. Vincent Cemetery at 9:15 a.m. and the Concord Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.
