K-M KoMets, Byron Bears soccer ‘share a win’

Tuesday night, Sept. 8, was a cold and rainy night, but that didn’t stop fans from coming out to watch K-M Girls soccer and their game against local rivals Byron Bears.
KoMet #6, Addie Evans, kicked the ball that started the long, intense game. It was a very aggressive 80 minutes with many battles over the ball. KoMet #10 and Bear #20 had a quick feisty fight for control of the ball, Byron was able to gain control.
Only 10 minutes in the first half, K-M tried to shoot but Byron’s goalie just barely blocked it. Just a few seconds after that, K-Ms Evans scored a goal after a corner-kick. The game went on for quite some time as the ball went from one side of the field to the other.
There was a bit of action with 8 minutes left of the first half where THE KoMets tried to shoot another goal, it was so close but unfortunately for The KoMets, Byron’s goalie managed to stop another ball from going into the net.
Within 3 minutes left of the first half, Byron was able to at least try and shoot twice, but K-M’s goalie, #98, Lizzie Johnson stopped both line drives. The Bears were battling to try to get a number on the scoreboard for the entire first half.
With less than a minute left in the first half, a Byron Bear snuck a goal in tying the game 1-1. The first half ended and with a 10 minute halftime, there were concessions available to support the Booster Club. Spirits were up and the crowd was cheering as the second half began.
It took just a few minutes for things to get going and the intensity came back. The Bears got a corner kick, and K-Ms Johnson made an impressive block once more. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Byron Bear #5 made their second goal for the night. However, the KoMets did not let that get to them and after a tough fight, #8, Halle Determan scored a goal, tying the game once more with only 10 minutes left of the entire game.
The concentration and seriousness of both teams left the fans in the stands excited for what would happen next in these last few minutes of a tied game. K-M goalie, Johnson shocked the audience by making a very close block, the ball fumbled in her hands while her teammates held their breath, she was able to grasp on and with a sigh of relief, the game was still 2-2.
With only 4 minutes left of the game, everyone was off their seats and Byron made a line drive kick to the opposite corner of the goal, it looked like there was no hope, but Johnson dove for the ball proving everyone wrong, she once again blocked the ball from touching the net.
It was a very competitive last couple minutes but with less than a minute left and no overtimes for this game, the coaches anticipated a game ending with a tie. As the buzzer went off, the scoreboard read 2-2 and that was it. Neither K-M KoMets nor Byron Bears lost a game, they simply just shared a win.
