Vikings advance to section championship

The Hayfield boys’ basketball team, the second seed in the section tournament, faced a tough test when they met Randolph, the third seed, in the section semifinals, but the

Vikings proved why they were seeded higher by beating the Rockets 68-60 to advance to the championship game.
Even though they ended up winning, Head Coach Chris Pack wasn’t really happy with how his team in the beginning of the

game.“Randolph came out and made three quick three-pointers and led 15- 8. They built a 21-11 lead shortly after, which was our biggest deficit of the game,” he said.
On the other end of the court, he said the Vi- kings’ offense, especially its three-point shooters, helped Hayfield keep up with Randolph.
“We made seven three-pointers, which kept us in the game. We chipped away at the 10-point lead and cut it to three at halftime. We moved really well against their zone and were able to get some really good shots against it,” he said.
However, Pack mentioned that the Vikings struggled to defend the three-point shot and the Rockets continued to shoot well on threes, which prevented Hayfield from completing the comeback before halftime.
