Bears tame the Cobras

Coming off the Cannon Falls Invitational where six Byron wrestlers were placewinners, the Bears continued their success this week as they beat the Triton Cobras 55-21 on Thursday, Jan 9.
Byron Head Coach Ryan Radke said his team did a good job executing throughout the match.
“We wrestled our style and were aggressive. We wrestled our pace and found ways to score points,” he said.
            After a forfeit by Triton at 106 pounds, Byron got three straight pins from their lower weights to take a commanding lead.
“We've been doing a pretty good job on working for pins. We don't mind being in that position when we wrestle,” he said.
            Each team won two matches in the middle weights, and then Byron’s Will Wharton won by major decision at 160 pounds.
 “Will stays in really good position. He can be tough to score on and has improved a ton in the offseason,” said Radke.
            Triton’s Brekken Schlichting and Mason Barker won at 182 and 195 pounds, respectively, but Vincente Deleon stopped the Cobras’ momentum with a pin in just 21 seconds.
 “Vicente likes to pin especially from his feet,” he said.
            Overall, Radke said his team has been steadily improving since the beginning of the season.
 “We're getting better at fixing the small things we did wrong earlier in the season,” he said.
Byron will try to keep doing those small things correctly when they travel to Kasson-Mantorville for a triangular on Thursday, Jan. 16.
