Shooting for a cure

From August 2018 to October 2019, Braxton Raymond battled for his life after being diagnosed with brain cancer.
Despite the grim prognosis, Kelly Raymond, Braxton’s father, said, “He never stopped fighting, worked out daily and continued to love life, food, friends, family and basketball.”
While it ended up taking his life, Braxton’s family and friends are celebrating his life by combining two of his favorite things: basketball and pasta.
The evening, termed Braxton’s Battle, will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, with a fundraising meal. A 50/50 raffle and raffle items will also take place.
Tip-off of the basketball game between Kasson-Mantorville alumni and St. Peter alumni, the two high schools Braxton attended, will follow at 7 p.m.
Braxton’s family encourages the K-M community to come cheer on their favorite former players.
Proceeds go to Braxton’s Memorial Fund, which provides scholarships to Kasson-Mantorville High School and St. Peter High School as well as donations to Shriners International and the American Brain Tumor Association.
The fundraising meal and game will take place at Kasson-Mantorville Middle School (1400 5th Ave. NE).
