Returning home as an attorney

You may hear Jason Iacovino’s voice on the radio broadcasting Blooming Prairie football games. 
Now you will see him working with Attorney Frank Henefield at Henefield Law Office on Main Street.
“I love the community and always have,” Iacovino said. “You’re close to anything you need and yet it is very safe, very accommodating, people are nice and it is a lot of fun. It does feel like home.”
Less than two months ago, Iacovino joined the law firm as an associate attorney. Over time, Henefield said Iacovino would take over his business. But for the time being, Henefield is adamant that he is not retiring.
“I have been taking a day off for about three years. I have been taking more vacation time,” Henefield said. 
“With Jason coming on, I’m looking to take more time. I am looking to continue working indefinitely.”
Iacovino is handling court work, including city criminal work. He is also gaining experience and becoming involved in all facets of attorney work including estate planning and real estate.
He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School and later from law school in 2006.
“Like a lot of lawyers, I saw these guys on television that see justice as a noble cause and think that fighting for people is a fulfilling thing,” Iacovino said. “That kind of drives me, along with the natural skills or traits that I associate with lawyers.”
He admits that going into law school he was thinking it would be one way, but in real life he is finding it much different. 
“My main goals are keeping the community tight, helping people when I can and certainly helping the city at every turn,” Iacovino said.
Iacovino came back to Blooming Prairie because of his roots. He had experience working with Judge Bradley C. Walker in Mankato. There, Iacovino learned what he needed to know about criminal law, family law and civil law. However, he didn’t have much experience on estate planning or real estate.
In his new position, Iacovino believes the major challenge is getting to know the residents and business owners who have known Henefield over the years. “I have big shoes to fill,” he said. “I want everyone here to be as comfortable with me as they are with Frank.”
What will help Iacovino is that he believes he is fair. 
“We do a lot of things here. I’m a prosecutor, but at the same time we help people on the private side,” he said. “You do wear a lot of hats in a small town. It is about being understanding and fair, but realizing at the same time, it is all about people coming to us with problems and needs. We want to make them feel good, but also maintain a good reputation.”
