A Night at the Museum in WC

It was party time in West Concord last Saturday night as nearly 150 residents and former residents gathered
to celebrate “A Night at the Museum.”
The event was to recognize the 25th anniversary of the West Concord Historical Museum located in the old West Concord school.
Tours of the museum were given during the afternoon followed by a social hour, dinner, entertainment  and a silent auction.
Emery Kleven served as emcee of the event and the group “Hoof  on the Roof ” provided entertainment both before and after dinner. The dinner was prepared by Omar and Lori Feyen of Omar’s Kitchen and included an assortment of desserts baked by Lori Feyen.
Attendees also had the opportunity to bid on a variety of items donated by local businesses and individuals for the silent auction.
The museum, and the West Concord Historical Society, date back to the winter of 1994 when residents learned their elementary school would be closed. A group of citizens banded together, purchased the old school and the West Concord Historical Society and the museum was born.
In the years since the school became a museum, it has been busy collecting items recounting the history of West Concord and the people who lived there
and put them on display throughout the building.
Former classrooms have been turned into theme rooms recounting the history of agriculture and business, education, local residents who served in the military and clothing through the years and more.
There is also a research room with newspapers,  books and other written materials preserving the history.
The celebration will continue throughout the year with a craft sale during Survival Days and again at Christmas in West Concord.
The document transferring the school to the society was signed on Sept. 29, 1995 and that date will be celebrated this Sept. 29 with an old -fashioned Ice Cream Social. The social is the society’s gift to the community.
