A Glimpse of Steele County

Graduation Day is coming soon for those across the Steele County Times and News Enterprise coverage areas. Over the next few weeks those graduating will be getting everything together for that special day in May, or in some cases, June.
Our publications have two senior interns that will also be crossing the stage receiving their graduation diplomas. They are Kristin Smith at Triton High School and Macaela Jensen at Blooming Prairie High School.
For the past year or so these two young ladies have been helping us out in various ways, all with an opportunity to learn more about the newspaper industry. Macaela has chosen to take up another profession after graduation. However, Kristin is looking at trying her luck in the journalism field. 
The two have always enjoyed being involved in the different projects that we are involved with. For those who don’t know, the history column that runs each week in the Times is written by Macaela. Both girls enjoy writing a story or two and have done that throughout the past year or more.
They also enjoy being involved in activities outside of the writing and photography atmosphere. If you may recall at last year’s Fourth of July celebration in Blooming Prairie, the two could be seen strolling around on their roller blades throughout the parade march. And in August, the duo were also at our Steele County Times booth during the Steele County Free Fair.
As interns, the hope is that each learned a bit about the newspaper business. And from what I gather each has learned something about journalism, which is the whole purpose behind the news internship program.
These two will be missed after they leave. Each day they would come to work with a smile on their face and would always want to be part of everything that we do. I will miss that. I will also miss the way that they take on any assignment, eager to accomplish it and ready for the next. 
Not only do I thank these girls for their commitment to our newspapers, I want to credit their families for all that they have instilled in them. They will be able to accomplish whatever they wish as they grow older.
Thank you Macaela and Kristin. I wish you the best of luck after graduation. Hopefully, we will be able to find two more interns as dedicated as you were.
