K-M girls powerlifting picks up another state title

For the third straight year, the Kasson-Mantorville girls powerlifting team captured a state title. K-M accomplished  the feat at the third annual Minnesota High School
Meet in Rockford, Minn. on January 12 and had a team of eight female lifters and five male lifters competing.
“This was a great meet for us,” K-M powerlifting head coach Cori Ronnenberg said. “We got to compete against some of the best lifters in the state and most of our lifters
— both boys and girls — set new personal records in each lift and totals.”
The girls team finished in first place for the third consecutive season topping Burnsville and Osseo for the top spot. Chloe Van Every competed in the 95 pound class and squatted 100 pounds, benched 65 and deadlifted 200 for a total of 363 pounds, giving her first place and setting four state records. Courtney Bohrer competed in the 103 pound class and had a three lift total of 264 pounds to finish in first place as well.
Daniella Garcia competed in the 138-pound class and finished with a total of 352 pounds to finish in second place. Taylor Goldschmidt  competed in the 158-pound class and had a three lift total of 456 pounds to finish in first place. Julia Christonson competed in the 185-ppund class and finished in first with a total of 379 pounds. Meghan Malisheske competed in the over 185-pound class and finished with a total of 660 pounds. Mackenzie Edgar also won a state title with a total of 588 pounds while Daniella Villagrana rounded out the group with a total of 731 pounds, placing first in her class and finishing third in the best lifter award for the meet.
K-M would have a strong presence in the boys 130-pound division. Logan Holmes-Gertner would finish first in the division with a three-lift total of 693 pounds while Zach Alexander would finish second with a total of 561 pounds and Gabe Bungum finished with a total of 500 pounds for third place.
Other lifters competing for the K-M boys were Sean Inman, who finished with a total of 742 pounds in the 205-pound class and Luke Seljeseth, who lifted a total of 1,170 pounds. As a team, the boys would finish in third place behind Burnsville and Osseo.
In all, nine lifters would qualify for March’s National High School Meet in Louisiana. K-M’s next meet will be in Holmen, Wisc. On January 26.
