Rhode Island native navigates small town holiday celebrations

For those of you that read my columns weekly, you probably know that many of the things that take place in small towns is different than what took place where I grew up.
One of those things without a doubt is different holiday celebrations.
I think one of the really awesome things that happens in small towns in Minnesota, and even some of the bigger towns, is the different community Christmas and holiday celebrations that take place.
When I first moved to Minnesota last year, I was told that I needed to cover the town’s Christmas Celebration, and I wasn’t sure what that would entail.
I realized quickly that, like many other small town events, it is a way for people in the community to celebrate where they live and also celebrate the holiday season in general.
When it came time to cover the different town events a couple of weekends ago, I was excited because I knew that each town would celebrate in their own unique way.
And that was exactly the case.
Despite the snow and not so great weather as the day went on, I was still very happy to cover the different events that took place in the communities.
The holiday season means that I get to go back east for a few days during Christmas time to see my family and celebrate.
I am certainly looking forward to that.
While with social media and cell phones I am able to usually keep up with the happenings of what happens in my hometown, it is also nice to be able spend some time in person with the family.
