New massage company comes to Kasson
When Amanda Marsden was in high school in a small town in South Dakota, she knew that one day she wanted to become a massage therapist.
In 2007 after graduating from South Dakota School of Massage Therapy, her dream became a reality and ever since she has done what she loves— helping people feel better.
“It’s very rewarding when someone gets off the table and they say they feel better,” Marsden said.
One of the main reasons why Marsden knew that she wanted to enter the healing field is because she used to give shoulder massages to teammates on her high school basketball team and also for the boys basketball team, which she provided stats for.
She also had her own experience of having massages helping her.
When she was growing up, she used to have issues with migraines and would get massages to help with them.
While in high school, like many athletes, she experienced body pains and her coach told her to try massages as a way to help with this.
After three weeks or so, her body began to feel better, and that’s when it clicked for her that she wanted to spend her life doing so in order to help people.
After graduating she began her career as a massage therapist in different places including being a partner in a company called "Bodywork Co-op.”
On June 7 Marsden and her family moved to Kasson after her husband was relocated for his job.
After trying to figure out what she would do for work, she came upon a great opportunity in Kasson.
First Ave Hair Company had an opening for a massage therapist after its previous one had left, and Marsden knowing that there is a big market for massages in town jumped on the opportunity.
Since August her massage company “Melt Away Massage” has been located in the back of the salon where she hopes to continue to help people feel better.
“I love being able to help people feel better and help them have a better quality of life if I can,” she said.
While Marsden never lived in Minnesota before, she has roots to the area, including her dad who grew up in Hayfield and four aunts who live in Rochester.
