Four youth wrestlers to state

Four Blooming Prairie youth wrestlers recently qualified for the state youth wresting tournament at Rochester. The meet went from Thursday, March 26, through Sunday, March 29, and included literally hundreds of young athletes from around the state.
The four local wrestlers included seventh-grader Colton Krell and three second-graders: Alex Lea, Lucas Smith and Bo Zwiener.  All four Blossoms won at least one bout, and Zwiener placed third in the 90-pound weight class.
Zwiener defeated Masyn Akkerman of Luverne 8-0 in the third place bout. Zwiener drew a first round bye, but then lost to Carson Gilbert (BBE) by a fall in the first period. Gilbert ended up the champion of his class. In the losers’ bracket Zwiener bounced back to pin Evan Friese (Quad County) in the first period, defeated Evan Senst (North Shore), 8-0.
At 150 pounds Colton Krell defeated Jaiden Bahr (Marshall/Lakeview,) 13-7, but then lost to Kyle Mller (Thief River Falls,) 12-6. In wrestle backs Krell pinned Jack Steil (Riccori) in the second period, but then lost to Alex O’Connor (Hastings) by a 15-5 count.
Lucas Smith decisioned Noah Jensen (Minnewaska,) 7-3 in his first bout, but then lost his next two at 85 pounds. At 75 pounds Alex Lea took an 11-3 verdict over Benedict Heim (Rockford). But he also lost his next two bouts to finish his day.
