Improved Brooktree Golf Course opens for season

Over 100 golfers enjoyed the improved Brooktree Golf Course in Owatonna Thursday, as it opened for the season at  12 p.m. 
According to Owatonna Director of Parks, Recreation and Government Buildings Jim (Corky) Ebeling, the opening was a week or two earlier than usual, but nice weather and anticipation for showing off improvements motivated the early opening. 
“We’re really excited,” said Ebeling. “They had a really good (opening) day. Hopefully it warms up here a little bit, and we can get some more golfers out here.”
Ebeling said regulars to the course will notice many changes this season, including a brand new outside patio with a gas fireplace. Ebeling said the patio will be used on a daily basis, though it may also be rented out for banquets and other events. 
For those wishing to ride across the course, 25 new, roofed golf carts have been added, and to help out, over 12,000 linear feet of paths have been laid, so golfers can ride along the entire course, even after a heavy rain. 
“In the past we didn’t allow that,” said Ebeling, adding that this will help keep the course open to golfers of all ages even after inclement weather.  
Golfers may also notice renovated bunkers, with more playable sand, a new bridge and remodeled pro shop and kitchen. 
“We really spruced up the place,” said Ebeling. “Added new things to made it nice.”
