BREAKING NEWS: Hayfield child dies at home

Dodge County authorities are investigating the death of a Hayfield child.
On Sunday at about 11:22 a.m., the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a Hayfield residence reporting a 10-year-old juvenile was found in bed unresponsive and CPR was in progress. Lifesaving efforts to resuscitate the child were unsuccessful, and the juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sheriff Scott Rose.
Preliminary investigation indicates there was no obvious trauma or known medical history, Rose said. While investigators believe the child likely died from natural causes, an autopsy will be performed this week by the Olmsted County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.
Rose said the county’s school resource officer and Hayfield School officials responded to the high school to organize a crisis response program for students this week.
Hayfield Ambulance and Hayfield Fire Department assisted the sheriff’s office at the death scene. Rose said the sheriff’s office also utilized its newly formed chaplaincy program to assist at the scene.
