A Glimpse of Steele County

This past week’s temperatures makes it seem like spring is here. But living in Minnesota, I’m sure that there will be at least one, if not more, days of cooler weather and possibly even snowstorms heading our way.
When I think of spring I really think of baseball. I enjoy sitting in Target Field watching the Twins play. Last year I attended 10 games, and the Twins only lost one. There had been a stretch over the years in which, if I counted right, I went to 10 or 12 straight games in which the team lost. It was kind of a standing joke among the family.
I also think about the continuous onslaught of special sections that we put together from now until the end of August. We just finished our recent spring farm special section, or tab. And it is easy to see that it is probably the best special tab we have put together in the time that I have been here. You should have received your copy of the 64-page publication this week.
It was interesting sitting at our weekly meeting Friday going over the farm tab and seeing what other papers in the region do. It is safe to say that our publications — the Steele County Times and News Enterprise — are comparable to any other newspaper in the region.
And that credit goes to our staff. We have added a couple of new pieces recently who I believe will make our products even better. We have a graphic designer and a news editor. Those two will be joining a veteran staff that knows what it is like heading into the next four or five months. We will be inundated with special tabs starting with our farm tab and including our spring sports tab, our graduation tabs, our 4th of July tab and finishing with our county fair tabs.
It is safe to say that spring and summer will be a blur for us. But it will be an enjoyable time and hopefully our readers will reap the rewards of all the tabs that will be coming their way.
