So Long (for now)

It’s hard to believe, but my summer internship with the DCI has come to an end.
My time here has been a BIG learning experience.
From asking the right questions, interviewing the right people, and most importantly not backing into a sentence, I’ve learned a lot about how to be a better writer from Richard Johnson, the paper’s managing editor.
He’s also taught me how to take better photos for the paper. Things like centering your subject in the middle of the photo, getting close-up images, focusing your camera, and getting emotive reactions aren’t hard individually, but doing them all at the same time has been difficult.
I can’t thank Richard enough for his mentorship.
Another person who deserves thanks is Rick Bussler, our publisher, who gave me this great opportunity to work here.
I’m also grateful for my other colleagues at DCI for their support and for putting up with me for the past three months.
Kidding aside, I’ve enjoyed getting to know my co-workers and the camaraderie of the newsroom.
I’m not sure when I’ll be back, but I’d be grateful for any opportunity to re-join the staff here.
Coming back would also allow me to meet more of the people who make Dodge County unique.
I’m just getting started in my writing career, but I’ll always fondly remember my time at the DCI.
