Spiderman: Homecoming

Another superhero swung into theaters this weekend, and he is a welcome addition. Spiderman: Homecoming is exactly the superhero movie the summer needed.
Following the adventures of Spiderman, alias Peter Parker, the movie picks up after the events of Captain America: Civil War with the teenage superhero back in high school after his epic debut with the Avengers. Unfortunately, regular life seems slow compared to Peter’s big league heroics, and his mentor Tony Stark is content having him stop bicycle thieves instead of super villains. When high-powered weapons start turning up in the hands of street thugs, Peter is on a quest to find the arms dealers and prove he’s ready for a full-time spot on the Avengers’ line-up.
This is the third Spiderman reboot in 15 years, and it’s the best. Tom Holland plays a better Peter Parker than either of his predecessors. He’s the first one to play a convincing high school student. Holland’s facial expressions are a joy to watch, and his Parker is the high school kid we all were.
After the hyper-gritty superhero adaptions of the last few years, there’s been a push back to a brighter tone with movies like Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy. Spiderman: Homecoming joins the push and doesn’t try to bog down a teenage superhero story with needless bleakness.
As the first Spiderman to join the Marvel Cinematic universe, audience members will also be treated to appearances from favorite Avengers. Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark is prominent in the story, while Chris Evan’s Captain America also gets fun cameos, particularly in a second post-credit scene.
