Skateboarders press on despite rain

On Saturday, June 24, the Owatonna Parks and Recreation held a BMX and skateboard freestyle competition. It was previously set for June 10, but Mother Nature had other plans. The rain made Owatonna Park and Recreation intern, John Thompson, reschedule the day of the event in hopes of landing a perfect day to hit the half-pipes and ramps. Despite the reschedule, the weather on the 24th managed to be enough to render yet another cancellation. 
However, this was not before the first event was able to take place. In the 12U skateboard competition, three different kids took the pavement and tried their best in their allotted 90-second-freestyles. Although all three gave their best shot at the trophy, Owatonna native, Cole Anderson, came out on top impressing the judges the most. Anderson showcased his control on the board, as well as some of his favorite tricks and maneuvers on his skateboard. He accredits his skill and knowledge of skateboards to his seven years of experience.  Also, Anderson was quick to point out that he couldn’t have done it without his close friend, “I would like to thank Blaize Norby; he taught me a lot about skateboarding, and has always inspired me to get better at it.” 
While he has only been performing tricks for a mere two years, Anderson’s skills proved worthy of the highest score; granting him the honor of hoisting the 1st place plaque.

Unfortunately, the rain did not hold off long enough for the contest to run in its entirety. So far, no further plans have been made to reschedule, yet again, to complete the remainder of the event.
