Overdose ends in murder charges
In what is believed to be the first of its kind case in Dodge County, a Rochester man has been charged with murder in connection with the drug overdose death of another man late last year.
Donte D’Andre Wilkins, 19, was charged March 1 with two felony counts of second-degree unintentional murder and third-degree murder by the Dodge County Attorney’s Office. After the arrest warrant was issued, deputies arrested him on the charges March 2 as he entered the Goodhue County Courthouse for court on an unrelated charge.
Wilkins appeared in court Friday morning where Judge Jodi Williamson ordered him to be held on $250,000 unconditional bail or $125,000 with conditions. He has since bailed out of jail and awaits another court hearing next Wednesday.
He is accused of causing the death of Tyler Reed Gray, 23, of Dodge Center. Autopsy reports indicate Gray died of an overdose of fentanyl, methamphetamine and heroin.
Gray’s death was the third fatal heroin overdose in the past several years in Dodge
