DCI captures state awards

“The people of this community are spoiled with this paper.”
That’s what judges of the state newspaper contest said in presenting three journalistic excellence awards to the Dodge County Independent (DCI). For the first time ever, top state honors have made their way to the DCI.
Last week, the DCI captured three top awards at the annual Minnesota Newspaper Convention in Bloomington. Publisher Rick Bussler accepted the awards on behalf of the newspaper.
“This is exciting to see that the hard work and commitment of our staff is paying off,” said Bussler. “I have set a high bar of journalistic standards for this newspaper and others are obviously taking notice.”
The newspaper won a first place award for best use of photography, second place for general excellence and third place for general reporting. The DCI competes in the weeklies up to 1,500 category, which is based on the paper’s circulation.
